Article 22:
To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds the
sum of Thirteen Thousand Dollars ($13,000.00) for the purpose of public safety
personnel for the Night Before the Fourth Celebration to be held on Monday, July 3,
2006, or a rain date to be determined or to take any other action relative thereto.
BY PETITION
Finance Committee recommends passing over this article. The Night Before the
Fourth is a most worthwhile event. The Night Before the Fourth has become a tradition
for Abington and many people from communities across the South Shore have come to
Abington to enjoy the celebration. The town is hard pressed to raise money to pay for
our necessary and essential services and projects. Those people who take part in and
enjoy the festivities of this wonderful event should pay for the privilege of hosting such
an event in our town. As these worthwhile causes come to the attention of the town
through the warrant at the Annual Town Meeting we can raise the expectations that this
is a commitment the town will make to provide funding to such individual efforts, and yet
we must maintain that this is neither a required nor mandated service the town provides
to its citizens.
Article 23:
To se if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds the
sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4,000.00) for supporting the Womans place Crisis
Center in lieu of services provided to the sexual assault survivors and their families, or
take any other action relative thereto.
BY PETITION
Finance Committee recommends approval of this article. This is a program that
depends upon funds raised by donations as well as other funding sources to provide
services and supports to women in crisis and needing immediate help to keep them from
harm. Each and every year the Town has provided funding for this worthwhile cause.
Article 24:
To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds the
sum of Six Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($6,500.00) to student transportation
services to Abington students attending out-of-district vocational schools as non-resident
students for the 2006-2007 school year, or take any other action relative thereto.
BY SCHOOL COMMITTEE
Finance Committee recommends approval of this article and recommends that Town
Meeting raise and appropriate the sum of $ 6,500 to pay for this expense. The Town of
Abington will be reimbursed by the state 50 % of whatever costs we incur to pay for
these transportation costs for our children who attend out of district vocational schools.
