ABINGTON —When police went looking for suspects who broke into seven motor vehicles over the weekend, they had two clues, Social Security and Blue Cross identification cards.
The cards, identifying Sean O'Brien, 33, of 38 Harding Terrace, Dedham, were found in a tent behind a Plymouth Street house where the suspects spent the night, Police Chief David Majenski said.
Police also found some of the stolen items in the tent, he said.
Residents in the area of Plymouth and Pilgrim streets reported the breaks Sunday, beginning with a 9 a.m. call to police and continuing through the evening, according to Majenski. Change, cigarettes, stereos, radar detectors, DVDs, binoculars, knives and personal identification cards were among the missing items logged in the reports.
During the investigation, police were led to a tent behind 678 Plymouth St., where there was evidence someone spent the night. Further investigation revealed some of the items stolen from the vehicles and O'Brien's identification cards, Majenski said.
"The homeowner reported speaking to the two (suspects) the night before," the chief said.
And, officer Todd Cantalupo had responded to a report of a disturbance in the area Saturday night, noting the names of the two men he spoke with — O'Brien and Frederick Fusco, 24, of 98 Orvis Road, Revere.
"It was a good bit of police work," Majenski said.
When all the information came together Monday, police found O'Brien in Dorchester, brought him back to Abington and arrested him, the chief said. A warrant is being sought for Fusco's arrest.
Majenski said the two men each face seven counts of breaking and entering in the night to commit a felony, seven counts of larceny under $250, and single counts of destruction of property over $25 and destruction of property under $250.
