JEFFREY COOMBS MEMORIAL FOUNDATION HOSTS 6TH ANNUAL ROAD RACE

 

 

            Abington, MA., August 6, 2007 – The Jeffrey Coombs Memorial Foundation is hosting its 6th Annual Memorial Road Race & Family Walk on Sunday, September 9, in Abington.

            Registration is underway for the 5K race/walk that begins at 9 a.m. at the Woodsdale School More than 1000 people gather each year to commemorate 9/11/01 , and to remember Jeff Coombs, an Abington father of three who was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorists attacks.  Registration forms can be downloaded on the Foundation website, www.jeffcoombsfund.org, and are available at Abington Library, town hall, and many local merchants and banks.  Runners can also register on www.coolrunning.com

            Registration fees (if received by August 31) are $17 for adults, $12 for students, and $5 for children under 12.  Late registration or same day registration fees are $20, $15, and $8.  Early registrants are guaranteed a t-shirt.  Top-placing runners receive medals and prizes.  This year’s run will include an under-14 category.  The event also features a short children’s race, raffles, a DJ, clowns, balloons, facepainting, a moonwalk, and free food provided by local restaurants and merchants. Race day registration and check in begins at 7:30AM . (Runners may pick up their numbers, Saturday, September 8th between 4 and 5pm at Woodsdale, if convenient)

All money raised supports the Foundation’s various causes.  The Foundation’s primary purpose is to provide assistance to area families who are experiencing financial and/or emotional difficulties because of death or illness.  Over the last six years, the foundation has distributed more than $250,000, helping families pay medical bills, buy medical equipment not covered by insurance, pay funeral expenses and household bills.  The foundation has also provided meals, vacations and social outings for grieving families.  It supports area programs and education through scholarships and grants to local schools.
