the road for ½ a day each 1st Wed.
KUDOS to NORMA CLARK: Part Time Council on Aging OUTREACH WORKER

done an OUTSTANDING JOB meeting with and/or talking to 183 Seniors
regarding enrollment in the new Medicare Part D (Prescription Plan).
Norma attended 39 meetings (every one was out of Town) regarding this
Medicare D ENROLLMENT, dating back to Fall 2004. Norma sponsored 6
meetings during the enrollment period Jan. 1-May 15, 2006, including Senior
Housing and the Rotary Club.
JOB WELL DONE, NORMA. THANK YOU.
COA Statistics for MAY 2006 613 Phone calls & visitors 134 Van rides + BAT
Letters of Job Well Done! Eileen Maraget and Jean LaCamera each received
letters praising them for their help the day the van caught on fire. Letter for each
in their file too.
FORMULA GRANT At the request of the MA Council on Aging (MCOA) I wrote to
Senator Michael Morrissey to ask his support for a bill to increase the amount
Towns are paid per elder to $7. (it is currently $5.87 PER ELDER.)
END RESULT WAS a partial INCREASE - TO $6.30 per Senior. Still a victory!
Remember in Abington we use the Formula Grant to fund the Outreach Worker
position and $1,000 towards Volunteer Recognition.
Circuit Breaker Tax Credit - Volunteer Bud Wheaton continues with his
specialty, as needed.
Intergenerational: The elementary students of both Center School & St. Bridget’
s School donated adorable paper baskets or bouquets for our Meals on Wheels
people and Luncheon. The High School Interact Club students served Seniors at
the annual banana split ice cream party on June 1st. Well done! Our Seniors will
be baking pies for the Abington Pride Day pie tasting contest. (also Dori
Jamieson)
